Kids at the camp were encouraged to play various games and sports, and would be awarded "King Coins" for winning.
The camp was secretly being controlled by the monstrous King Jellyjam, who had hypnotized the camp counselors into serving him. Initially appearing as the cute and benevolent-looking mascot of Camp Jellyjam, a sports camp with a fiercely competitive spirit, the truth was far more sinister. King Jellyjam seems incapable of speech, though he regularly roars when angered, and on occasion will belch loud enough to shake the campgrounds above, which the campers mistake for earthquakes. His flabby arms are strong enough to easily pick up a person, though his fat, stubby fingers are incapable of grabbing anything small or flat. He has two arms, but no legs, and seems incapable of moving under his own power. His face consists of two enormous, watery yellow eyes, a big drooling mouth with fat purple lips, and two nostrils that constantly leak streams of chunky white mucus. He is a gigantic purple blob the size of a house whose slimy purple skin constantly sweats live snails, as well as emitting a horrible, sour stench (Wendy describes the smell as being like "dead fish, rotting garbage, sour milk, and burning rubber-all at once"). The real King Jellyjam, however, is far more vile and horrific. On the logo of Camp Jellyjam, King Jellyjam appears as a simple purple gumdrop-shaped ball with a grinning cartoon face and a golden crown.
